The New European Bauhaus is an innovative initiative launched by the European Commission to imagine and build sustainable and accessible places that are “beautiful for our eyes, minds, and souls”. Inspired by the Bauhaus movement, it fosters cooperation between thinkers and doers aimed to redesign our cities. The International Forum intends to bring to the fore the contribution of the European Capitals of Culture to build sustainable, inclusive and beautiful places, taking into account the New European Bauhaus approach (interdisciplinarity, connection between culture and science, accessibility, involvement of citizens). The Forum will be opened by Barbara Gessler-European Commission- Head of Unit “Creative Europe and ECoC programme”, followed by a key-note speech of Carlo Ratti, director of the Senseable City Lab at MIT and one of the designers of Italy Pavilion. The focus will be subsequently placed on the tangible practices and examples presented by the following European Capitals of Culture: Matera 2019, Esch 2022, Kaunas 2022, Novi Sad 2022 and Nova Gorica/Gorizia 2025. The forum will be moderated by Barbara Carfagna (RAI 1 journalist). The initiative is organised by Matera-Basilicata 2019 Foundation and Italy Pavilion under the patronage of the European Commission.
