“A bridge of music and words: building a dialogue between cultures through a listening experience – analogies and differences between Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cultures”. This is the title of the Workshop at the Italy Pavilion – promoted by the Fondazione Cultura e Arte, in partnership with the University of Naples “l’Orientale”, the project leader, and with the IULM UNIVERSITY of Milan – which gives a preview of the “Two Moons” concert by the World Youth Orchestra, scheduled for the evening of the 18th of November at the Expo’s Dubai Millennium Amphitheatre.
To mark the Universal Expo’s Tolerance and Inclusivity Week, two universities and a youth orchestra narrate the common path undertaken in Rome, Milan, and Naples at the Workshop that put together different languages and cultures from every corner of the world. Teachers, artists, and students focus on the dialogue between Eurasian cultures, creating a direct listening experience at the Italy Pavilion’s Amphitheatre.
The event, which is the follow-up of the Two Moons concert, invites spectators to participate in a sound experience: the sound of musical instruments and the sound of the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern musical traditions dialogue with the sound of the Italian and Arab languages against the backdrop of thousands of images. It is an immersive experience that leads spectators to acquire a deeper understanding of the differences and similarities, of the proximity and distance, and to recognize the great common heritage of stories, sounds and images that unite us as individuals.
