“Women’s Expo”. Expo Dubai, the first Universal Expo to be held in the MENASA area (Middle East, North Africa and South Asia), will be deeply marked by women. The Italy Pavilion, in its informal diplomacy and international cooperation efforts, will be the leader of this project.
“Expo 2020: Beyond Empowering Women”, an event organized by the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Italy with the collaboration of the Professional Women’s Association (PWA) of Rome, which is scheduled to be held on Women’s Day in the UAE, has shed light on our Country’s role in the fundamental themes of gender equality and women’s empowerment.
In his contribution, General Commissioner Paolo Glisenti highlighted how Italy tops the group of Countries that spend more to promote multi-sectoral and multi-disciplinary debates on these issues, ranging from medicine to diplomacy, business and education.
"The issue of women is not only limited to International Women’s Day on the 8th of March, but is addressed in all Expo Dubai’s thematic weeks, determining a substantial change in the vision and approach of the Universal Expo,” said Paolo Glisenti, when illustrating the initiatives in which our Country is and will be a key player: “The Italy Pavilion will stage 11 thematic events dedicated to women during the 6-month Expo which, among other things, will focus on gender-specific medicine and cultural diplomacy. It is no coincidence that 70% of our 60 young volunteers are women.”
