“The food of the future – used by astronauts and sportsmen but also an element capable of producing oxygen – lands at the Italy Pavilion at Expo Dubai”. This is how Green Zone, Rai Radio 1’s magazine on sustainability, defined the Spirulina microalga (Arthrospira platensis) and its extraordinary properties.
“It will be cultivated in a water garden – consisting of five ponds around the Belvedere structure – and it will make the Italy Pavilion breathe”. These are some of the details on Spirulina revealed by correspondent Arianna Voto which, as stated by the Italian General Commissioner for Expo Dubai, Paolo Glisenti: “will turn our Pavilion into the only one not to use artificial air conditioning.”
The project manager, Federico Micheli from TOLO Green, highlights another virtue of the microalga: “We will produce Spirulina powder to be nutraceutical – food functional for human use – because it contains all the amino acids necessary for human life, as well as all the proteins”.
