Safeguarding health and the right to adequate nutrition, safely and without waste, with the goal of achieving sustainable and innovative agricultural production models: these are the items at the core of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Italian Commissioner’s Office for Expo 2020 Dubai and the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies (MIPAAF).

The agreement was signed by Commissioner Paolo Glisenti and by Minister Stefano Patuanelli during the preparatory event by Maker Faire Rome – The European Edition “Buono! Storie italiane di agricoltura, territori e cibo sostenibili”, promoted by the Chamber of Commerce of Rome, in cooperation with the University of Siena’s Santa Chiara Lab and organized within the framework leading to the UN’s Food Systems Summit, the outcomes of which will be underscored during the events Italy will be launching together with International Organizations, beginning with the European Union.

The goal of the Memorandum is to incentivize innovative food models as a way of conveying a message of beauty and sustainability, in line with the claim chosen for Italy’s participation at Expo Dubai, “Beauty Connects People”.
MIPAAF will be promoting the activities of the Council for Agricultural Research and Economics (CREA), Italy’s main research organization on agrifood systems and the hub chosen to allow the country’s best agrifood research and projects to converge on Dubai. International visibility will be given to the Mediterranean Diet and the healthy approach to food culture it represents, through an interactive and practical approach especially designed to reach out to young consumers. The other focus will be on aquaculture, one of the tools needed to face the challenges of production sustainability.
Joint initiatives will also be planned at Expo Dubai, to showcase the “collaborative entrepreneurship” models in the sectors of Agriculture 4.0, precision agriculture and circular economy.
