The extraordinary numbers of the Italy Pavilion’s Volunteers Programme at Expo 2020 Dubai featured in a report in “Il Quotidiano del Sud”, illustrating the steps leading to the final selection starting from a huge group of applicants.
The article explains how the list of selected participants is the outcome of a process which began with some 8000 female and male students, aged between 21 and 28, submitting their applications in just over two weeks – from mid-March to the 1st of April 2021 – to express their interest in the initiative promoted by the Italian Commissioner’s Office for Expo Dubai in partnership with CRUI, the Conference of Italian University Rectors.
60 applicants, 39 female students and 21 male students, with an average age of 23 and representing 52 universities, will ultimately make it to the Pavilion at Expo Dubai.
As explained by Commissioner Paolo Glisenti, “Education will be the central theme of Italy’s participation. Training and a multidisciplinary approach to skills will be part of all of the labor market’s innovative processes and deepest changes”.
“Il Quotidiano del Sud” notes that 50% of the selected volunteers come from universities in Southern and Central Italy, with Campania and all of its seven universities leading the Southern pack, followed by Sicily, Apulia, Calabria and Sardinia.
