The Italy Pavilion’s commitment to bring issues related to the future of education to the forefront of the world debate before and during the upcoming Universal Exposition kicks off.
Following the success of the “Future Education” #DigitalChallenge organised by Italy’s Commissioner’s Office and culminating with the grand finale on Saturday 12 December, it is now the turn of the pre-Expo 2020 Dubai Thematic, Knowledge & Learning Week, which offered a preview of the contents and initiatives that participating nations will bring to the Universal Exposition next year.
Also to take place on-line was the RewirED – Global Summit on Education world forum, promoted by the Dubai Cares foundation in collaboration with Expo 2020 Dubai and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates.
Italy has a leadership role on the group of participating nations that have chosen Education as the central theme of their participation in Expo 2020 Dubai.
On Tuesday, as part of RewirEdX, the first discussion to take stock of the impact of the Covid 19 crisis on the global education landscape and outline possible future strategies included the participation of the Italian Minister of Education, Lucia Azzolina. The panel was introduced and moderated by Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates and Managing Director of Expo 2020 Dubai. The UNESCO Assistant Director-General Stefania Giannini, the former British Prime Minister and current United Nations Special Envoy for Education Gordon Brown, the former Prime Minister of Australia and president of the Global Partnership for Education Julia Gillard, UNICEF's Executive Director Henrietta Fore. Also participated in the session is Saudi Arabia's Minister of Education, Hamad bin Mohammed Al Al-Sheikh; Saudi Arabia was the last country to have held the rotating presidency of the G20, before handing it over to Italy.

As part of the Knowledge & Learning Week, curated directly by Expo 2020 Dubai, the “Rewiring Education - Learning for the Future” international panel discussion was held, moderated by Annina Mattsson, Director of RewirEd and attended by Italy’s Commissioner General Paolo Glisenti.
It was also an opportunity to paint an oral picture with the Italy Pavilion's peer mentor, Chiara Bargellesi, of the outcome of the “Future Education” International #DigitalChallenge promoted by the Italy's Commissioner's Office, in collaboration with Unesco Education and RewirED, which saw 600 students from all over the world come across and compete against each other on education issues and challenges for over a month.
