Future Education #DigitalChallenge, the participation notice
“Future Education – Italy Expo 2020: Rethinking education for a world of change”: this is the title of the first international student Digital Challenge organised by the Commissioner’s Office for Italy’s participation in Expo 2020 Dubai.
The initiative represents a response to the appeal made by His Holiness Pope Francis in relaunching a new world education pact, the Global Compact on Education, through which on 12th September 2019 the Holy Father invited all civil society, religious, social and cultural representatives to join forces in bringing about a new education alliance. His Holiness renewed the invitation with a video message last Thursday, reaffirming the pivotal role of education.
“Future Education - Italy Expo 2020: Rethinking education for a world of change”
Already inserted in the UNESCO Futures of Education general framework, the initiative is a global call to action for encouraging hundreds of students worldwide to reflect on sustainable and innovative solutions capable of rethinking – with a bold and far-sighted approach – the future of education in the post-COVID-19 era.
All students aged between 16 and 21 years are invited to participate. All admitted students will be involved in a team-based project acceleration path which will see them operating in the digital arena for four weeks, from 24th October to 24th November.
Expo Dubai will act as a global education and growth platform for hundreds of thousands of students worldwide, who for six months (from 1st October 2021 to 30th March 2022) will debate on the main issues concerning global citizenship, including world economic challenges, the climate emergency, new social needs and cultural innovations.
In this context, Italy will play a leading role in the educational programmes, by hosting several laboratory-based initiatives in its pavilion, with students, teachers and educators from around the globe actively engaged through inter-cultural dialogue.
Next year’s Expo will therefore be a unique opportunity for promoting the results and expectations of the world education pact and making it known, but also a starting point for establishing and sharing a few indispensable objectives for channelling everyone’s efforts, by opening projects and paths that can favour new educational models, in line with the Holy Father’s message.
