“A great opportunity and a totally unique kind of educational experience”: The Italian students’ trip to Dubai for Expo 2020 has already begun, with the first internships kicking off at the General Commissioner’s office for Italian participation.
Three of the trainees have arrived in the Emirates city nine months ahead of the start of the World Expo, while the two others are currently based at the Rome headquarters in preparation for the big event of this year.
300 students from all over Italy took part in the selection process carried out by the CRUI Foundation in partnership with the Italian Commissioner’s office; the successful applicants were Ilaria De Capitani from the University of Bergamo and Alice Furlanetto from the University of Macerata. They are joined in Dubai by Francesca Danni, winner of the selection process carried out in collaboration with the IULM University of Milan, on the basis of an agreement signed on 19 July 2019.
You can follow their video diaries in the Instagram stories on the official account for the Italian Commissioner’s office.
Alice, born in Falconara Marittima in the province of Ancona, explains how the internship will allow her to observe the World Expo from a very particular perspective.
Twenty-four year old Ilaria, from Calolziocorte in the province of Lecco, believes that this experience is an important stepping stone in a career path that might eventually see her involved in international cooperation.
Francesca is from Ivrea, near Turin. The Piedmont student explains why Expo 2020 will be first and foremost an opportunity to study the interaction of many different cultures.
The first three trainees will remain in the United Arab Emirates until 15th April. On 16 April, Leonardo Cardellini from “La Sapienza” University and Gabriele Bellucci from the LUISS G. Carli University of Rome will arrive in Dubai to start on the second internship cycle.
Since October 2018, ten students selected through internship programmes with Italian universities have already completed their terms at the General Commissioner’s office in Rome. Laksha Caforio and Cesare Colombo, students of the University of Insubria in Varese, are currently there at the moment doing their internships. In the next three months Nita Claudia Andrea and Antonio Mancuso will also arrive from the same university.
