One month after the exceptional high tides which brought Venice to its knees, environmental sustainability was the theme of an event organised by the Italian Cultural Institute in Abu Dhabi and the Italian Embassy in the United Arab Emirates. In the course of an evening of music and poetry at the Abu Dhabi Theatre, institutions from Italy and the UAE expressed their solidarity with the lagoon city which has once more become a symbol of environmental emergency.
The composer Silvia Colasanti directed the Guadagnini Quartet, one of the most famous European groups for chamber music with a classic and romantic repertoire, accompanied by the voice of the well-known actor and director Elio De Capitani who read out poetry written by Mariangela Gualtieri inspired by the environment. The name chosen for the evening was “Earth, I walk upon Thee” which drew inspiration from a verse by the poetess Mariangela Gualtieri “Terra, io ti cammino” in order to highlight the issue of sustainability.
Held under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFAIC), the event was sponsored by Nahayan Mubarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Tolerance for the UAE, and the Emirates Red Crescent.
