Bringing Italian language and literature to the Emirates: this is the aim of the newly-opened Italian Cultural institute in Abu Dhabi. Ida Zilio Grandi, who for many years has been a professor of Arabic language and literature at the “Ca’ Foscari” University in Venice, will be taking charge of the mission. For some time the Emirati authorities have expressed the desire to construct a cultural hub due to the ever-increasing amount of attention directed towards Italy and Italian culture, something that is also influencing expectations for the country’s pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, which launches on 20th October next year.
Plans also include the opening of a library and an Italian international school. The first training courses and workshops held in partnership with local institutions are due to begin very soon.
